Aanica Gonzales

Growing up in Tampa, Florida, Aanica spent her early years training in rhythmic gymnastics, learning music theory, and performing at her local theatre. Combining these interests, Aanica turned her focus to dance and spent the next decade training in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Modern. During this time, Aanica spent summers training and performing with the Joffrey Ballet School. From 2015 on, Aanica was trained specifically in Cecchetti Ballet, a style with a focus on establishing a natural-looking relationship between the softer movements of the head and arms and the more rigid rest of the body. In her exploration of the styles and off-shoots of Ballet, Aanica found a deeper interest in modern dance, and spent years training in the Graham technique. Through this training, she came to understand the importance of breath control when dancing. These ideas of breathwork and body awareness are at the center of Aanica’s teaching philosophy.

Outside of her work in dance, Aanica spent the last four years studying neurobiology at Caltech and working as a nanny for local families.
